Peggy Adams? I'm only 14 and I've loved animals all my life. I especially love dogs and reptiles. Today, my father took me to the local humane society. http://hspb.org/ I asked how old you have to volunteer and they said 14, so I'm good, lol. I think I am stupid enough and even if I am given to dogs and animals I do not know some of the things I have to meet the demand. I'm new to this site too! :)
I hope someone can help me. Heres the things I do not know;
* 1.) Canine Enrichment. (What does this mean exactly?)
* 2.) Greeter / host. (Again, what does this mean?)
* 3.) Zootherapy. (Same thing)
* 4.) Adoption Adviser. (Same thing)
* 5.) Adoption Assistant monitoring. (Same thing)
* 6.) Pet Detective. (Same)
Id appreciate it if you tell me what all that meant so I know where I signed to do. Im good at rehabilitating and training dogs, so I want something to do with it. Or even just walking the dog. Thank you people give. This means attribute cause I really want to help these dogs who have to live in a shelter.
1) Would be things like walking and playing with dogs.
2) those who just wish to protect, by showing them pets, watch counter, etc.
3) Generally, it takes pets to visit hospitals or nursing homes, I do not know why this would be a safe position unless they do something like this as a method promotion of their animals.
4) Helping to match people with pets, applications testing, etc.
5) Check on the pets after they have been adopted. maybe just mmaking telephone calls may be home visits, according to the protocol.
6) The reunification of stray dogs to their original owners.
"Canine enrichment" is probably closest to what you want to do. Thank you for volunteering!
Are these the only thing they have ... What about the person who will clean the cage, take the dog for a walk and feed them? Is this animal as an assistant worker in a shelter?
Sign up for a pet detective, he just sounded cool. I would ask them what is the best job for a 14 year old and tell them what skills you have.
I agree. Choose Pet Detective.
I volunteered to different places, never in human society, but most of them have even invented ways to explain job as "dog walker." My guess is that "the canine enrichment "is probably playing with the dogs running. At 14, this is probably the best job for you. I would skip 4-6. 4-5 front to help make recommendations and follow up with families who have adopted pets, and usually requires much training. (Also, some shelters have you home visits - not a good idea for a 14 years only.) Pet Detective is probably the volunteers who investigating animal abuse. Probably not ideal for a 14 year old.
Not sure 2 and 3.
Do not be afraid to call the humane society and ask for descriptions! You're not dumb because you can not understand their language complicated. And good for you for volunteering!
Is this for the Peggy Adams Animal housing in WPB?? I used to volunteer for them.
Well these are lists of available positions, canine enrichment do not know but it's to do with dogs, Greeter means that you greet people, pet therapy probably means that you love animals. You're not old enough to make 4 or 5, the employees do and Pet Detective probably means looking for lost pets or owners.
A lot of times they want someone to pet cats and pet dogs, give them human contact, clean litter and changes on paper. I used to do and I also want to take the dogs to clean.
Do not take everything they give you things to do and help with.
Good luck, it's a very rewarding experience.
