Modern SuitsA brief history of costume

The suit is the traditional form of male formal clothing in the modern world, and it has been so for nearly 200 years. Although the modern suit did not appear until the nineteenth century, the origins of the jacket can be traced to the revolution in men's clothing set by the British royal family after 1600.

In the 1660s, King Charles II decreed that the court, the men had to wear a long coat or jacket, waistcoat, tie - which later evolved into the modern necktie - a wig and a pants. The entire complex would become the standard business suit that millions of men wear every day working day of their lives.
In the early 1800s, the styles have changed enough that the trend has led men to wear understated, clipped, perfectly tailored coats with ties carefully knotted. What we call the modern suit was originally an innovation of the nineteenth century England. Man tailored suit became the great leveler of social 19th century. With the collapse of the aristocratic leadership that had dominated society since time immemorial, it became less necessary for men to emphasize distinctions of social rank. As the suit became increasingly popular, even the humblest men would have at least one combination to wear - their "Sunday best."
America has taken the lead in 20th century with the lending industry to bear in developing advanced technology that has created a reliable source of clothing for all men. Tailors worked on standardized master patterns, a technique borrowed from the U.S. Army, and department stores released suits proliferate in nature rather uniform.
The Zoot Suit first gained popularity in the 1930s in Harlem in the jazz community, the word "zoot", according to the Oxford English Dictionary, probably comes from the word "costume". Anti-Latino race riots in Los Angeles during the Second World War were known as the Zoot Suit riots. Despite restrictions and discrimination, Zoot Suit culture prevailed.
During the last fifty years, the wetsuit has become much less frequent than in the past and is now almost exclusively in commercial activities and formal. During the 1990s, many companies in North America adopted casual Fridays. The abandonment of a uniform dress code has led to considerable confusion over what is considered appropriate business wear. More recently, some businesses have reinforced the wearing of costumes, although they may never be as common as they once were.
So if you're one of those guys that males and the trend continues to wear a suit every day of your life - Take a Bow. You are keeping the story alive.
