** First bit of history

In 1969, the editor of a monthly newsletter, Max P. Vander Horck based pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI) for lovers of fireworks. He opened the list of members in 1969. In 1974, a formal charter and regulations have been developed and the organization is now known as PGI Inc.

** OK, So What about the green men?

The earliest known recorded revenue for gunpowder or black powder were written in a manuscript compiled military in 1044 in China. However, in the 17th century John Bate has published a book of fireworks in England. The following interesting piece of history can be found on the website of the PGI.

According to the site Bate John wrote his treatise on fireworks in 1635. This treaty symbolizes the long tradition of fireworks in the processions found in festivals and celebrations. At the head of the processions of men carrying fireworks in the shape of hand clubs light emitting sparks. To protect themselves from these sparks, they are covered with fresh leaves of trees. They were from Green Men ".

Today, this symbol of the Green Man is part of the emblem of PGI and PGI many members may still refer to each other as "green men".

Handel composed the music for fireworks in 1717

For those interested in classical music - Handel `s think 'Royal Fireworks Suite" composed in 1717 for such a festival of fireworks. It was in England, and of course the green men were there.
